SUNY New Paltz Beta Gamma Sigma inducts 32 new members at ceremony
The School of Business at the State University of New York at New Paltz inducted 32 members into the New Paltz chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma on Friday, Dec. 6 at Studley Theatre on the New Paltz campus. President Donald P. Christian was inducted as Chapter Honoree. Following the induction ceremony, graduating students were honored with awards for academic excellence and outstanding service.
In order to be nominated for membership in the Honor Society, students of junior or senior standing must be in the top 10% of their class and have a weighted GPA of at least 3.64, and master's students must be in the top 20% of their class and have a GPA of at least 3.8. Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a student can receive in a business program accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International.

Record Number of Students Take Part in SUNY Oneonta's Freshman Service Day
A record number of SUNY Oneonta freshmen spent their first full day in Oneonta volunteering in the community. New students moved into their residence halls on Sunday, Aug. 25, and 202 of them participated in the college's sixth annual Freshman Service Day the next day.

1,100 New Students Enroll at SUNY Oneonta
Approximately 1,100 new students, selected from more than 12,000 applicants, began their studies at SUNY Oneonta this fall. Classes began on Wednesday, Aug. 28.
The SUNY Oneonta Class of 2017 is exceptionally talented and diverse, said Roger Sullivan, the college's associate vice president for enrollment management. The freshman class has an average high school grade-point average of 91 and an average combined math and critical reading SAT score of 1135. Acceptances of AALANA (African American, Latino, Asian and Native American) students were up 11.3% this year, and for the first time, AALANA students accounted for 1 in 5 new freshmen and transfer students.

92 Students Inducted Into SUNY Oneonta Chapter of Phi Eta Sigma
A total of 92 students were inducted into the SUNY Oneonta chapter of Phi Eta Sigma, the national scholastic honor society for college freshmen, during a ceremony in the Sanford Auditorium of the college's Instructional Resource Center on Sunday, May 5.
With 330 chapters nationwide, Phi Eta Sigma promotes excellence through recognition programs and scholarship competitions. New members qualify by achieving grade-point averages of at least 3.5 during their first year in college.
Phi Eta Sigma, one of the longest-standing freshman honor societies in the country, was founded at the University of Illinois in 1923. Chartered in 1994, the SUNY Oneonta chapter is advised by Dr. Kenneth Johnson, Associate Professor of Geography.
The induction ceremony was conducted by Dr. Kenneth Johnson, Faculty Advisor; Katie Sheehan, Chapter President; Allison Ryley, Vice President; Carrie Safford, Secretary; and Kimberly Brooks, Treasurer. The guest speaker was Dr. Steven Perry, Vice President for Student Development. Each inductee was awarded a certificate and a membership key issued by the national headquarters of Phi Eta Sigma.

SUNY New Paltz to celebrate Undergraduate Commencement
The State University of New York at New Paltz will hold the May 2013 Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, May 19 at 10 a.m. on the Old Main Quadrangle. This year, there are 2,059 undergraduate degrees being conferred. There will be more than 1,400 undergraduate candidates participating in the ceremony and celebrating their achievements in the presence of their family and friends.
The ceremony will recognize two cohorts of students: August and December 2012 and May and August 2013 candidates.
